How long until progress? With chronic illness, this question lingers. In this post I share some reflections on setbacks, progress and why no two timelines look the same.
When I was teaching, I brushed off the warning signs. They weren’t new. I’d battled similar symptoms during a long recovery from Glandular Fever in the years before. I recognised them. I knew they were a bad sign and that they were getting worse… but I kept ploughing on.
Overwhelm is everywhere and for good reason. The pace of modern life asks more of us than ever. There’s the pressure to keep up, to stay on top of work, family, finances, the news, our phones… all while somehow staying well, rested and connected.
When addressing the bereaved families of September 11th attack victims, Queen Elizabeth II famously said, “Grief is the price we pay for love.”
