If traditional exercise classes feel too fast-paced, physically demanding, or simply not designed with your body or health condition in mind, it makes sense to look for something different.
Chair yoga, sometimes called seated yoga, offers a gentler and more accessible way to support mobility, particularly so after illness, injury, surgery or a period of reduced activity. It can also help people manage ongoing, longer term health conditions.
These classes are designed to support people who want movement to feel manageable, calm and realistic for where their body is right now.
Classes may feel supportive if you are living with or managing:
Arthritis or joint stiffness
Reduced flexibility or balance concerns
Parkinson's or neurological conditions
Energy-limiting conditions such as ME/CFS or Long Covid
Chronic fatigue or lower energy levels
Stroke recovery
Hip or knee replacement rehabilitation
Reduced mobility
Nervousness around exercise or group classes
Returning to movement after illness or a long break
Rather than focusing on intensity or performance, classes encourage steady, supported movement that helps you reconnect with your body gently and at a pace that suits you.

Chair yoga can help support posture, coordination, flexibility, and steadiness through gentle seated and, where appropriate, supported standing movement that feels safer and more accessible than many traditional exercise classes. Over time, people may notice growing confidence in everyday activities such as walking, standing, reaching, and general mobility.

Slow, controlled movements help encourage circulation, joint mobility, and muscle engagement without placing unnecessary strain on the body. This can feel especially helpful for people managing conditions, rehabilitating after surgery or injury, or wanting to maintain strength and movement as they get older.

Classes also include breathing exercises and moments of rest to help calm the nervous system and release physical tension. Gently tuning into your breath and body during class can support a sense of calm that extends beyond the session itself, something as valuable as the movement. People can leave class feeling less tense, more comfortable in their body and more grounded, hopefully both physically and mentally.

Classes include seated yoga-inspired movement, stretching and relaxation practices adapted for varying mobility levels and abilities. Movement is always guided clearly and at a pace that gives your body space to follow comfortably. There is no need to get onto the floor.

Breathing practices and focus on the breath are woven throughout every class, not as an add-on but as a central part of the experience. Tuning into your breath can help support your nervous system, ease tension and build gentle body awareness you can use every day.

There is no pressure to keep up, push through discomfort or perform movements perfectly. The class size is limited which means you never feel lost or overlooked and you are always encouraged to rest, adapt or simply observe whenever that feels right.
Hi, I'm Becky - a certified Health & Wellbeing Coach and yoga teacher, and the founder of Wellbeing for ME.
Before illness changed things, I was a teacher. Working with people, understanding what they need, creating a space where they feel comfortable has always been at the heart of what I do.
I live with ME/CFS myself, which means I truly understand what it feels like:
when your body doesn't cooperate the way it once did
when fatigue, pain and unpredictable symptoms mean that movement must look completely different from what it used to
when you have to let go of what exercise meant before and find a new relationship with what your body can do now.

These experiences shape how I teach. I don't come to this just from a place of theory and training, I come to it from a place of having had to relearn movement myself. I understand what it means to need movement that meets you where you are rather than where you think you should be and how important it is to feel safe, comfortable and genuinely welcome in a movement space, just as you are.
Whether you are completely new to yoga, returning to movement after a break or managing ongoing health challenges, these classes are designed with your experience in mind and I’d love to see you at a class soon.
“You were clear on your instructions and did everything with a lovely smile. You gave alternatives if anyone needed help with a movement and checked with everyone if they could hear you.”
Val
“I enjoyed Becky’s chair yoga sessions, she has a friendly, outgoing personality. Her instructions were clear, she stressed to only go as far as the individual felt comfortable. I felt my entire body had been exercised and stretched with no adverse reactions afterwards.”
Rosemary
“I really enjoyed your class. You gave good, clear instructions and are a very pleasant young lady well suited to teaching.”
Pamela

These classes may be a good fit if you are:
Looking for gentle movement that feels safer and more accessible than mainstream fitness classes
A senior, beginner, or someone returning to movement after illness, surgery, or inactivity
Managing chronic pain, stiffness, arthritis, reduced flexibility or balance concerns
Living with Parkinson's, a neurological condition or recovering after a stroke

Living with ME/CFS or Long Covid and needing a teacher who’s PEM aware
Wanting a class that has rest and restorative practices built in
Feeling unsure or nervous about exercise and needing a supportive environment
Simply looking for a gentler, calmer approach to staying active and feeling well
These classes are designed around gentle, supported movement, not intensity, performance or fast-paced fitness. If you are looking for vigorous exercise, advanced yoga poses or expect classes to provide medical treatment or clinical rehabilitation, these sessions are not the right fit. If you are simply unsure whether these classes are right for you, you are very welcome to get in touch with me and have a chat.
You are always advised and encouraged to speak with your healthcare professional before joining a new movement or exercise class/activity but especially so if you have any medical concerns or on-going conditions.
One of the most common worries before joining a new class is: "What if I can't keep up?"
Chair yoga is specifically designed to remove much of that pressure. Using the chair for support allows movement to feel more stable, accessible and adaptable for a wide range of abilities and energy levels.
You are always welcome to pause and rest, adapt movements, move more slowly or skip anything that does not feel right for your body on the day. The grounding and breathing practices woven into every class give you something to return to in those moments, a way of staying present and comfortable even when movement feels like too much.
The focus is not on performance. It is on helping you move and breathe in a way that feels supportive, sustainable and genuinely manageable for where you are right now.
Classes start on Tuesday 30th June 2026 and will initially run for six weeks, giving you space to settle in and build familiarity at your own pace. You must reserve your space prior to attending as class numbers are limited but there is no requirement to commit to the full course. You are welcome to join for individual sessions as and when it feels right for your body and your week.

Rest is always encouraged. You are welcome to pause, slow down, or adapt any movement whenever you need to - there is no pressure to keep up or push through. Becky lives with ME/CFS and understands the importance of pacing, rest and listening to your body.
